Coverlight blackout blinds can be mounted in two ways, depending on your window type and preference:
Recess fit (inside the window frame)
This is the most common installation type. The blind sits inside the window opening, between the frame edges. A recess fit gives a clean, flush appearance and works well with most standard window types. Your window recess needs to meet a minimum depth requirement to accommodate the side tracks and headbox.
Face fit (outside the window frame)
If your window recess is too shallow for a recess fit, or if you prefer the blind to cover the entire window opening from the outside, a face fit is the alternative. The blind is mounted on the wall or surrounding frame, with the side tracks extending beyond the window opening. This option can provide slightly better blackout coverage on windows with irregular recesses.
Both mounting options deliver complete blackout performance. The side tracks, sealed headbox, and weighted bottom bar work identically in either configuration. If you’re unsure which mounting type suits your windows, check out our Measuring Guide or contact our friendly team for support.

Window winder handles (cranks), locks, and other hardware that protrude from the window frame are the most common obstruction we encounter. Here’s how we handle them.
Winder handles (cranks)
If your window has a protruding winder handle, there are a couple of options:
Locks and latches
Standard window locks that sit flat against the frame are generally not an issue. Protruding locks or deadbolt-style mechanisms may require a face fit for clearance.
Sensors and security contacts
Window security sensors are usually thin enough to sit within the gap between the glass and the blind without interfering with the side tracks. Check the Measuring Guide or contact our friendly team to know if Coverlight is suitable for your specific setup.
General advice
If the clearance space between the edge of the sill and any protrusion is less than 25mm, a face-fit installation will generally be required to maintain full blackout performance. Where sufficient clearance is available, a recess mount may still be suitable. See the winder handles section above for details.
If you’re unsure whether a specific obstruction will affect installation, take a photo of your window and forward it to our team, who can assess compatibility before you commit to an order.
Yes, this is a popular option. If you install the Coverlight blind within the window recess, you can then mount a traditional screen or privacy roller blind on the face of the architrave for a clean, dual-blind solution.
The idler pin holds the blind roll inside the headbox. To remove the roll:

Spring System: The minimum width is 300mm (with a minimum drop of 800mm) or 400mm wide for drops under 800mm.
Motorised System: The minimum size is 525mm wide by 400mm high.

Headbox: We offer several profiles. Our standard square headbox is 64mm × 64mm (78mm deep with the front pelmet). We also have a traditional angled profile.
Side Tracks: The side tracks are 45mm wide and 25mm thick.
